So, I have created my Kickstarter Project and keep getting questions about the show. I have decided to put together a little FAQ for you.
FAQ
Q: Why on Earth would I give you money?
A: I’m not asking for a handout. This is no longer about doing some crazy stunt for cash. I am trying to put together an actual web show based on the original idea. I has evolved into something I could not control on my own. I don’t want you to pledge money you don’t have. That would be selfish. If you can’t then don’t. What you can do is pass this on to the people you know. Word of mouth advertising is what I need. There might be somebody that is connected to you somehow that could benefit from this and would love to make a pledge. You’re not committing to anything yourself by simply passing the message along.
Q: Is this just about watching you walk?
A: No. The show is mainly about how people react when I ask for help. Whether it’s asking to work for a couple hours for food or just trying to get some help finding my way. I will also be stopping in at some homeless shelters and food shelves to get the stories of the people working there and the ones that need help themselves.
Q: How are you going to keep this from being boring?
Honestly, I am an extremely outgoing person. I feel that getting through life means having fun no matter what is going on in your life. During the show, I will be asking the viewers to post daily challenges that I can do to amuse them. I will also try to get “Invited” to work or crash a wedding or other event. I am a wedding DJ after all and an extreme Type A.
Q: Do you already have the trip mapped out?
A: No. The whole premise is to see where the roads take me. I will be starting in Isanti, MN and stopping in Phoenix, AZ. The roads I take and towns I go through will not be planned. The journey will lead me wherever it wants.
Q: Are you doing this for a charity or specific cause?
A: No. That was my original plan but plans have changed. Now it is about getting the journey done. In a sense I will be bringing awareness to certain things that are part of the shows premise but I will not be promoting any specific charity or cause.
Q: Why do you want to do this?
A: Originally it was about raising money to move my family to Phoenix. I offered to do some crazy stunts to raise the cash. Now, it’s mainly about doing something that I will never get the opportunity to do ever again. This has become an obsession of mine & I want to see it through. It is literally a Once in a Lifetime opportunity to do something that very few people have ever done and I want to share the journey with the world.
Q: Will you honestly be broke when you travel?
A: Yes. I will not be starting with any money. When I take that first step, I won’t even have a penny in my possession. I will be attempting to make some money while I am on the journey. I won’t have credit cards, bank cards, or checks with me at all. If I am able to work, I will most likely trading it for food or shelter.
Q: What happens if you can’t get food or shelter?
A: If that happens, I will go without. The premise of the show is about survival. Survival in America. I will be in a position where I won’t have any other choice. Either I get to eat or I don’t get to eat. That will be all be determined by the people I meet along the way. Scott Linke Goes for a Walk isn’t just about the walking. It’s about how people treat other people and what happens when people mistreat other people.
Q: What will you do if you get mugged or attacked?
A: That is one of the main reasons I need to hire somebody to go with me. I really don’t want to be mauled by a pack of ravenous wolves so I will need somebody close by just in case.
Q: What else will you do with the money?
A: The way this is planned out, I am going to hire somebody to go with me to film a lot of this trip. They will be supplied with food & a motorized camper with the capabilities to edit video & upload each segment to the web site. I was going to produce this all myself but research showed it was way to difficult & expensive.
Q: What happens if you don’t get funded?
A: I go back to my daily life. The plan is still to move my family to Phoenix but it will take a little longer. Creating the web show was my way of having a purpose for once in my life. I truly have a desire to walk the whole thing but can’t afford to take the time off to do it. By creating the web show, I can do it and give myself a purpose to do it. To entertain viewers.
Q: How is this different than any other reality show on TV?
Q: Why would people watch your show and not something with somebody famous?
A: The famous factor has a tendency to alter peoples reactions. I’m an unfamiliar face. People won’t look at me and say, “You’re that one guy from that TV show.” They will see me for what I am. Just another faceless person in a sea of faceless people. Those who want to see the truth and get raw emotion would prefer to watch a nobody instead of a famous somebody. That is why people would watch the show.
Hopefully that has answered some of the questions that have stopped you from spreading the word. All I ask is that you tell somebody about this. It can’t cause you any harm by doing so. Thank you.
